The Heart Speaks to Heart Prayer Study is returning to The Lolek Center this Fall.
If you have ever wanted to pray more deeply—not just say more words, but grow in a living relationship with God—this is an invitation to take that desire seriously.
St. Thérèse of Lisieux described prayer as “a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” St. Teresa of Ávila called it “nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God”—taking time, frequently, to be alone with the One we know loves us.
Prayer is meant to be more than saying the right words or reciting the litany of prayers we have learned. Those prayers are good and helpful. They form us, give us language, and carry us when our own words run out. But the goal of prayer is not performance. It is a loving relationship with God, who desires to connect with us on a very human level.
That is what this study is for. Heart Speaks to Heart is a seven-week introduction to relational prayer. Our desire is that the deepest parts of our hearts would connect with the most loving Sacred Heart of Jesus—that we would come into true intimacy with the One who loves us most. The title comes from St. John Henry Newman’s motto, Cor ad cor loquitur—heart speaks to heart. That is the conversation we want to enter.
Our first offering of this study this summer was incredibly fruitful. Many participants shared how their daily prayer life changed. They began paying closer attention to the work and grace of God in their lives, learned to articulate their experiences of God, and discovered how to process and receive the many graces God was already desiring to give them through the day. As they grew to love God more, they more fully discovered the love that God has for them.
Each Monday evening gathering lasts an hour and a half and includes time for learning, discussion, and prayer. Think of it as a little mini-retreat each week—space set apart so you can come to know God more deeply.
